Important Note: Volunteers are what makes it possible to provide these opportunities for our daughters to learn and grow. Please consider any number of volunteer roles - whether coaching, helping with tournament planning committees, or serving in a Board role as a way to get involved.
The South Fayette Girls Basketball Association offers three different programs:
LITTLE DRIBBLERS: Coordinator - Chris BibeyOpen to girls in grades K – 2, this program typically runs from November through early February on Saturdays or Sundays. Focus is on learning basic basketball skills – dribbling, passing, shooting – in a relaxed and fun environment. Open to all skill levels, this is a great place for first time players to get introduced to the game and also for other players to continue to develop their skills. Each participant receives a t-shirt.
IN-HOUSE RECREATION BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Coordinator -Jill KirschThe In-House basketball program provides a fun and encouraging environment for girls to continue to learn the game of basketball. The program is open to girls who are South Fayette residents in grades 3rd through 7th (7th grade non-travel players only). For the 2024-2025 season, registration will open be open through September 15th. All girls will be placed on teams and each participant receives a reverse-able game jersey.
Participants are divided into a 3rd/4th grade league and a 5th/6th/7th grade league. For 3rd-4th grade, the format is 3on3 half court - with the focus on continued skill development and to give players a better opportunity to be actively engaged in game play. For 5th-6th grade, games are 5on5 full court.
Cost will be $100.
3on3 Rules Link5on5 Rules LinkTRAVEL BASKETBALL LEAGUE:
Coordinator - Jared KnoxThe travel program provides players who have more advanced skills and abilities the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment. Travel basketball starts in 3rd grade and runs through 8th grade. Players will be evaluated at tryout sessions and rosters can be limited. Depending on turnout and skill assessment, it is possible that some players may not be placed on a team. On a year-to-year basis, a second team may be added in a single or combined grade. Travel basketball teams participate in a league against nearby community travel teams, typically in the Chartiers Valley Youth Basketball Association league or South Hills Basketball League (we may also participate in the Greater North Hills Travel league or Metro Travel league as needed to meet competitive needs of our teams), and teams also typically participate in several local travel team tournaments. The travel basketball season typically starts with tryouts in late September/early October, with practices beginning in late October/early November, and the game/tournament season running into late February or early March, depending on league and tournament schedules.
Important Notes:
* Travel players in grades 3 and 4 are also required to play in house basketball. All other travel players in 5th and 6th grades have the option to play in-house, but are not required to do so
* Parents of travel players are required to volunteer to assist with the February Frenzy Tournament in February (typically 6-8 hours of volunteer shifts per family)
